SCAD Sand Arts Festival 2011!

Posted in Personal on May 10th, 2011 by Ryan

This last weekend Sharyn and I went back to Savannah to hang out with some friends and compete in the Sand Arts Festival with Jeff & Jill Masters and Brandon Loving. Here are some pictures of the Sarcophagus that we made!

The festival was a lot of fun and everybody made some pretty amazing stuff. You can check out more sand sculptures here at the SCAD Sand Arts 2011 Facebook Album.

We worked hard enough that we ended up placing 1st in our Sand Relief category and scored $500 bucks! How sweet is that?!

Macy’s Backstage

Almost all of my internship at Framestore this past summer was devoted to this commercial.

I worked on 3 shots, all of which contained this epic shoe shelf. A section of the shelves (4 columns wide, and 3 stories tall) was actually constructed and used on set. I was given the task of creating a 3D model that would could be used for a stand-alone shot, see below, or a set extension.

You can view the entire commercial here, on Framestore NY’s Commercial Archive

Broken: New Edit!

“This is the most current edit that I have for the film.

Unfortunately, because I would like to try and enter the film into some animation festivals when it’s complete. I cannot publicly post it online.

But I can allow views on a per-person basis. Please e-mail me at Ryan@RyCo3D.com if you would like the password to view it.

Inkblots: Wall Creatures

For these 2 shots, the Director wanted the main characters drawings to come to life as a background element. This shot was tricky because it required 15 unique characters to be animated for about 30 seconds each (almost 4 min of animation) in 2 weeks. To get all of the character designs I visited a local elementary school and, with the art teacher’s and parent’s permission, scanned in some student work. After breaking the drawings up into 2D rigs in After Effects animation seemed to go pretty quickly.
